Cysteine Proteases
Protozoan and metazoan parasites cause many neglected diseases in resource-poor areas. This collection examines the possibility of targeting cysteine proteases within these parasites to provide a low-cost solution to this issue of parasitic infection. Cysteine proteases are particularly attractive for several reasons: they are ubiquitous in parasites, they are known to be druggable, and much is known about their structure, mechanism of action and how to inhibit them. This compendium of reviews and viewpoints will focus attention on selected proteases and their function.
