PLOS is a non-profit organization on a mission to drive open science forward with measurable, meaningful change in research publishing, policy, and practice.

Building on a strong legacy of pioneering innovation, PLOS continues to be a catalyst, reimagining models to meet open science principles, removing barriers and promoting inclusion in knowledge creation and sharing, and publishing research outputs that enable everyone to learn from, reuse and build upon scientific knowledge.

We believe in a better future where science is open to all, for all.

The FMAP Collection

Curated Collections

This collection of papers highlights research performed under the auspices of the Future of Marine Animal Populations (FMAP) program, a component of the Census of Marine Life. The goal of the program has been to analyze and synthesize global trends in marine species abundance, distribution and diversity, and to model the effects of fishing and climate change on those patterns. With an emphasis on understanding past changes and predicting future scenarios, FMAP researchers have developed techniques to determine long-term changes in marine animal populations and ocean ecosystems, large-scale trends in marine biodiversity, and the dynamic movement and behavior of marine animals. Close collaboration with statisticians and mathematical modelers has enabled the processing and analysis of data sets and integration of multiple data sources.
