GLBIO 2017
The 12th Great Lakes Bioinformatics Conference (GLBIO) 2017, organized by the GLBIO Consortium, aimed to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of research findings and methods in bioinformatics. An important goal was to foster long-term collaborative relationships and networking opportunities within the domain of computational approaches to biology. The conference committee accepted seven research papers for presentation at the conference, six of which have been included in this collection. The agenda included sessions on a wide variety of topics including host-microbiome interactions, bioinformatics education, biological data visualization, and 3D genome organization. It also provided updates on several exciting areas of research and education, spanning population genetics, evolutionary biology, precision medicine, systems biology, public health and open science.
